Default Rear defroster

So the wires in my rear defroster are pretty much all kaput. The main ones running down the rear window are fine, but the grid going across ... each and every single one of them has an open in it. Now, I bought a jar of that touch up paint.... After hours finding EVERY damned open in the thing, got roughly 7 of the .. 20 or so working, but at this poiint my rear hatch looks like random splatters of orange conductive paint. :P

I could keep going on with the rest, but before I do that, I am curious. I've never heard of someone replacing the rear defroster grid. Are they available? Are there places you can take it to to have it done and if so anyone have an estimate on pricing?

I wouldn't stress it so much, except it's bad enough my front defroster doesn't work optimally. The previous owners redid the heater coil and it seems mucked something up inside, so the front vents dont shut off when you turn on defrost mode. Still defrosts my window, just hardly at the rate i'd like. Either way, that's another question for another topic... but I AM really curious regarding the rear defroster.

Thanks in advance gentlemen.

I have never seen a replacemnet grid. Just the repair kits that had a metalic paint and a template to mask off each line so you dont paint over the whole window.

Yeah, thats what I have.. even with that template it's still messy. Oh well.. Guess I'll be going through a few of them.

Guess I'll take a razor or something to the excess spots and cut it away after it all dries to get it as thin as possible.

Thanks!
