Default Rear Axle Width

Hi all, just wondering what the wms-wms is on the stock rear axle? what applications would provide suitable donor axles? I'm thinking 12 bolt chev, but don't know what to pull it from.
Thanks,
Ian

BTW- I'm assuming that all third gen camaro's have the same rear axle, but with different gear ratios

They came with both 9-bolt(until 1989) and 10-bolt rears and will fit on all 3rd Gen models. 4th Gen rears will also work, however they are 4" wider (2" per side).
Ratios:
9-bolt----3:08.2:77,3:27 and 3:45 and very few 3:73
10-bolt----3:08.2:73,3:23 and 3:42 (same for 4th gen rears)
RPO G80 limited slip & J65 rear disc brakes were a extra cost option andwere not on every rear axle. Spline count was 26 until mid 1989 when changed to 28.

thanks for the reply. If I were to upgrade to a 12 bolt, any idea what vehicles I could take the axle from and what the wms would be?

You can't use rear axles from other cars, theywill NOT work without expensive fab work, Special order 12-bolts are in the $2500 range.

I won't try explain the differences. Look under your 3rd gen car and then look under whatever 12-bolt GM you think will fit. End of story.
