Are you planning on doing the paint yourself? If so, if you properly sand, prime, and prep the car before paint, it should last as long as any other car. If you're taking it somewhere to be done, make sure it's a reputable body shop that preps the car well and not a Maaco paintjob and you should be fine.

Camaro/Firebirds were assemblied at both Van Nuys, Calif. & Norwood, Ohio. After the Ohio plant closed in 1988 all Camaro/Firebirds were asseblied at Van Nuys and at this time a new paint process was started (Calif.Air Qualtiy Regulations) and problems started with paint peeling. So in answer to your question 88 to 90 cars had major paint problems. Later years had improvements.

You could have just mentioned any of the cars from Van Nuys. The waterborne enamal were used before 88.
