Default New Paint Job

Alright, well I'm looking at my 89 RS a few days ago after washing it and realized there are a few chips, scratches, and gouges in my paint job. There are also a few spots where the point is slightly bubbling. Not severely bad looking, but it's sort of bothering me.

Then today I stopped by my local auto parts store to get a bottle of my paint mixed up (which is white by the way) and I ended up not buying a touch up bottle because I talked to the guy for about a half hour and he took a look at some of the chips and he recommended that I don't touch it up because some of the spots are slightly rusted and the paint would end up bubbling up even more and it would look worse. Then he looked at my front valance because it's spidering terribly and my quarter panels are starting to slightly rust under the wheelwell. So he recommended that if I have the funds available to get new quarterpanels (front and back) and a completely new paintjob if I wanted to take care of the problems with blemishes in the paint.

My question here is how much would a paint job cost (I would do most of the sanding first) and how much would it cost for four new quarterpanels. Also, can someone add a link to a website where I can find prices for quarter panels if I want to order them.

Wish I had the time, knowledge, and tools to do it on my own. I want it done proffessionally so it looks decent without any problems. I just need an estimate. My local auto store gave me $125 quote on a gallon of paint, but that's just paint... no labor included...

a local place is charging me either 3800 or 4800. But they do very good work. That includes a new front bumper, the little plastic pieces on the side, and replacement metal in a few places were its beggining to rust. 6 coats of paint and 4 clear. Not bad for whats getting done... but not cheap by any means.

There is no reason to replace the quarter panels (those are in the rear around the wheels. the front is called fenders) for some surface rust. They can be cleaned up and treated. There are chemicals made for that kind of stuff. Your autoparts guy is a ditz!

6 coats of paint and 4 coats of clear is way too much material build up. If the color covers well 2 to 3 coats. If it does not cover well then maybe a tinted sealer. its just base and there is no reason except for coverage to use so much. 2-3 coats of clear. Idealy if you want it like glass 3 coats of clear then wet sand it and put 2 more on. The clear will flow out nicely and be slick without having to rub it. Rubbing it always takes away from good looking depth.

You can find out waht kind of paint they use (sherwin williams ultra 7000, ppg dbu,.....) and maybe look up a data sheet online and see what the manufature recomends. I usualy see a recomend 2-3 coats for base and clear
