Default New to me - 83 camaro z28 smoke coming from heaters.

Hey there, I just bought a camaro its my first muscle car and I think that the heater core is blown, my engine temp will get really hot from idle in neutral and there is rad fluid dripping from on my floor. Is this going to be a hard fix? Any advise? Should I take it to a pro or do you think I can take it apart and fix it myself I know I have to take the dash off and the heater core or coil is in there somewheres. I am renting a small garage for the winter so I will be able to do some work on it there and I have about 6 months to get this car running smoothly! Hope someone can give me some advice on this.

Nothing is too hard with a little bit of research. I would recommend you get shop Manuel if you plan to work on your own stuff. Is it just dripping, is the coolant significantly low? Since just dripping on your floorboard isn't going to make it overheat. There may be other issues.

Well it runs fine when I top it up but it leaks fast so after about 15 mins of driving I get smoke coming in threw the heaters and it gets hot. So I turn it off top it up and let it cool down then its fine again. I have it parked in my garage for winter now tho cause we got alot of snow last night. I am planning to work on it myself and I cant seem to find a haynes manual for the same year from my car at can tire and dont have a visa so I cant buy one online and suggestions where I could find one? Also my car has a newer engine the 350ci and the rest of the car is stock as far as I know. My mechanic told me to put a new carb on it, and exhaust headers to get better performance and he told me to flush the rad and put a new thermostate in this winter when I have it in storage. So maybe that could help with the over heating problem but I think its just because my fluid levels keep getting low.
