goin down the road at 45 an my rear end locks up for a spilt second then began clunking ever since. got it home and i broke 1 whole tooth and half a tooth off the ring gear and a whole tooth off of the pinion.
its an 1989 rs camaro

why did it do that?

and how do i get the differential out?

i have the axel shafts out and the bearing caps off too

DO I HAVE A DEAL FOR YOU! lol

ive got a rear out of a 89 RS. Drum brakes. 3:08 gears, AND the G80 LS. If your close to St. Louis u can take it for 50 bucks.

If your just lookin to rebuild. They both should work. But have it dont at a PROFESSIONAL shop if you want it to last past one launch.

I Live in flint michigan
and i found a rear end for 75.

are there other vehicles that use the same 10 bolt but have better gear ratios like a 3.73 or close to it
like i was told 4x4 s10 trucks have 3.73 rear ends.
and i have lots of friends that build race cars an drag cars an so on i think one should know how to shim the diff or what ever

if you want a set of 3.73 s10/blazer gears, the axle code you need to look for is gt4. i have a set, but they already have someones name on them. i grenaded the diff in my blazer. i highly recomend just swapping the axle, i got mine for $150, and most places were a little over $200. if you are going to install the gears youself, you will need an impact gun to remove the input yoke to get the pinion gear out, a dial indicator to measure lash, a truning torque gauge, and some gear paint. its a good way to spend $500 and an entire weekend if you want to do it yourself, or just take the axle to a shop and do it for less

to remove diff juss take a crowbar stick it in the pinion lock and and hit the crow bar witha hammer ( it will take awhile ) while crow bar is resting on diff i would put a rag between the too and to get pinion out juss beat it out with hammer..

make sure u get the right play in the gears that can cause breaking teeth and other things

could have been low fluid causing friction and made teeth britler
or excessive wear in teeth causing them to skip and break

You keep asking for advice, but you NEVER give any details on what rear axle you have. Now I know my guess is correct, but you have no clue. The above info is for one gear set for a 2-series and the other is for a 3-series.
