Motor swap out of a front wheel drive car
I have a 91 RS and i am looking for a motor for it. I have found some from front wheel drive cars but i am not share if it would work or not. If it does work what all would i have to do for it to work? It had a 3.1L in it but i would like to put a 3.4L in it but i am not share on how much i would have to do to get it to work.
Don't use the engine from a front drive as the blocks are externally and internally different. The main problem is that there is no provision for attaching the motor mounts. Use a rear drive 3.4 and use the heads and valve gear from a front drive engine. The front drive 3.4 uses roller lifters, roller rockers, and canted valve heads, making it a much better engine than the rear drive one. You can use heads, rockers, and manifold from a from a front drive, and bolt them up to a rear drive engne for a good power boost (30-40HP). Roller cams cannot be used on rear drive engines due to oil gallery problems. The best heads and manifolds are the ones from a 3500 engine.
Well do u think it would be better to just rebuild my 3.1 or just get a used motor? The motor that was in my car was blow when i got it so i took it apart and found that the oil pump went on it, cause it to spinn the bearing. It just spon 2 bearing but some one told me that the crank was no good now. So what do u suggest i do with my motor Problem?
If you can find a good used 3.1 or 3.4 Camaro engine it would probably be cheaper than rebuilding your old one, and if you get a 3.4 you will get more power. Many salvage yards sell used engines and give a warranty. The only problem is that if the engine turns out to be bad, you get stuck doing the work all over again.
well i have found a 350. But i am not sure how hard it would be to put the 350 in place of the 3.1. What all would i have to do and change for the 350 to work? i wasd thinking about put a carb. on it. what would u suggest?
