Default looking to sell my current car for a 3rd gen need opinions

hi, i’m new to this forum. i was considering selling my car for 3,000-2750 around there, and buying a 3rdgen camaro. i’d look to spend less than 3500 for one, and they seem to be easy to find for that price and even a lot are for sale for under 3k even. the problem is i don’t understand why these are so cheap, and also is id intend to build the current v8 whichever it has, 305 or 350, preferably the 350 of course. these have no power stock from what i’d expect, but shouldn’t cost too much from what i could to build wise. the power loss will be noticeable because my current car has 300+hp. so any opinions on what you think i should do? thanks

Don't bother building a 305,replace it with a 350 the 305's are junk motors.
Third gens haven't reached the status of the 1st and early 2nd gens yet but will be coming up in value as they get harder to find in decent shape.
Not long ago late 2nd gens were a dime a dozen but lately they are coming up in value, not up with early second gens yet but rising fast.
If I were you and wanted a 3rd gen I'd keep looking and saving for the right deal on a late 3rd gen Iroc with a 350,just my 2cts.

I used to have a 91 305 RS, I liked it, but it definitely was not a high performance car. 1987 was the first year the Z had a 350, previous years had a 305, but it was a better version than the RS 305. The RS 305 had restrictive heads, the 305 Z28 did not. Also, the RS had TBI (carburetor looking throttle body), the Z had TPI. As far as engine displacement, bigger is better.

thanks for letting me know about the 350s and 05s. i was considering doing heads, cams, exhaust, and headers, for compression and restriction anyway. i guess there would be no sense going with a 305. maybe id buy one with a 305 or v6 and continue to drive it but build a 350 from the block up.
