who knows, perhaps 18-20 on the highway. Maybe 15-18 around town. Does it matter.

If you want an economy car then get one. Maybe you will drive 12k mileswhich is approx 250 miles per week. At 30 mpg and $3.60 per gallon you are around $30 per week. At 20 mpg you are at around $38- $40 per week. So, is $8 per week savings enough to even worry? If it is, and $8 puts you over the edge then you are dangerously close to not being able to afford to drive.

Again, those are discussions to have with your folks. If you have a job and pay for the gas and insurance etc yourself then just work the numbers.

If you are trying to justify the purchase so your folks will get it by using economy as a tactic then don't bother.

1st off, how are you paying for the car? A loan? If you are at all worried about fuel economy, I agree with the above poster....its not the car for you. If you are scraping by, which is normal for 17, then just imagine when it comes time to buy tires, or brakes, or just to change the oil. I would say that you have to imagine the worst case scenario: Car loan due on the 1st, time to fill the gas tank, insurance due, oil change, battery....if you can handle this each and every month with plenty of money to spare, then maybe, if not....its time to wait. There is nothing wrong with buying a $1000 camry and using that for a few years until you are more stable.

You'll look legit driving around in that king ! GET IT!
They may not all be stupid, but they are ALL inexperienced. Every 17 year I know thinks their driving skills are peak....but look at it this way...whats the difference between little baseball and the major leagues.....AGE AND EXPERIENCE. A hopped up Camaro as a first car is asking for trouble, even if the driver is a level headed kid. Lack of experience can get you killed when you fishtail on slippery roads, loose gravel, etc.

To ask the MPG question- 15 MPG is average, less if you hog on it. As a broke 17 year old and gas hovering around 4 bucks a gallon.....you do the math...

theres a reason insurance is high on new drivers cause its a fact youg ppl dont have the experiance of older adults and do get in more acidents. as a first car i wouldnt recomend it gas is only going up and a v8 aint cheep. unless your parents got alot of money and can buy you a dd like a honda or something and get the camaro for the weekends.
