Default ignition switch help

My car wont start, no turning over the engine, so ive decided to replace the ignition switch. ive gotten the wires off of it, but theres a pin sort of thing that goes in the side of it that I cannot get off. any ideas how to do it? also, if this doesnt work, any more ideas of why it wont start, ive been thinking the vats system. any vats module that needs to be replaced or anything?

Most of the time when VATS is in trouble it lights the security lamp. Is yours lit?
