I've got an 86 z28/ irocz with the 305 tpi. From a cold start it doesn't want to stay running. It'll fire idle rough die. Takes about 6 or 7 tries before it idles ok. When I first fire it up and try to give it a little fuel and itll fall flat on its face, I was thinking something along the lines of an idle control sensor or something like that. What do yall think, this is my first camaro and first time tinkering on a sbc so I'm open to advice from some "veterans" :-) thanks for the help

 

Could be the IAC valve. Try taking it out and cleaning it, but handle it gently.
Do you have a lit check engine lamp? If so, check for the code(s). Could also be defective engine coolant temp sensor, which may set a code. Or a defective cold start valve or a defective thermal sensor (no codes for those)
