Default I have an issue here

Ok well, i went for an illegal drive today, (no liscense plates and not inspected) jsut around the block. well, before i went, it seemed to be running fine, although sometimes it would pop out of the carb. well i take it out, i was with my brother, well every time i floored it, it had nuts and all, but it wouldnt stop popping and sputtering out of the carburetor. I was able to leave one really nice strip, hehehe, but it still would not stop popping. well, i am driving back to my house, and i get to teh bottom of my driveway, and it stalls. well, i start it back up, it stalls again, and again. finally i get it started, keep the rpm's high and put it in gear, back to my house. it was parked, and idling, but it would keep stalling, idling rougher then normal, and at really low rpm, as if it were not runnin on all 8 cylinders. . i adjusted the carb, but no improvement. i need some help cuz now im gettin pissed. my next option for me was to rotate the destributor a little, and tune the timing. it has fresh gas so there is no water in it.

well thats the thing this motor was rebuilt pretty recently, probalby 30,000 miles after rebuild. are you suggesting a new timing chain? This problem was kindof sudden so it is a possibility.

Either Timing Chain, or distributor loosened up. thats why i hate timing chains, i usually do timing gears.

this may sound silly, but how recently has the cat been replaced? my 85 did that and it drove me nuts, turned out it was the OE cat, old school setup, clogged as hell

I had a clogged Cat also. I had to drive it like a 90 year old for a couple of days until I got it fixed.

I also had a clogged cat in mine, but it would not go over 25mph, and it was sluggish. If its poping outta the carb, then its deff timing.

well thats funny because i just put in a cat about 2 weeks ago to get it to pass inspection. it is a used cat from my brothers 87 cadillac, i put it on just to say i have one for inspection. well, before i go any further, im takin this stupid cat right back out. well, i have to buy headers and the y-pipe before i can put a cat in because both exhaust manifolds come into one 2.5inch pipe, which is already restrictive as hell. well, if this doesnt fix anything, i will get back to you, and thanks you a lot for all of your help. and Nj85, you said it might sounds silly, but your comment could be the one to fix my problem. thanks everyone.
