Default I desperately need help on my camaro!

Hey everyone, I hope there is someone on here that can help me with an issue that I have with my car. Here goes. I had a 350 engine in my 1985 z28 but I seized it do to a defective filter. So I went and bought another engine a 350 of course, I got the engine in there everything bolted up, and now the thing won't start. I found top dead center and I got the thing to run once but it only ran for about 30 seconds then died. Then it would not fire up again. So the next morning I tapped the gas and the thing fired up and stayed running but when I shut it off it would not fire up again, and I notice there was an extreme gas smell. So what I'm thinking is maybe it's a carbouration issue. Or maybe I should try to find top dead centre again and repeat the whole process. Somebody please point me in the right direction before I give up on this car.

Being that your engine actaully ran till you shut it down, I don't think it is a matter of finding TDC, but a fuel problem or ignition problem. Verify there is a spark when cranking. A raw fuel smell could be an indication of flooding or ignition misfire. Make sure the carb is working OK, especially the choke. Check the float level and verify the fuel is being shut off when the float level is right.

Pete, this is Dale the guy with the 85 z28 it is getting a spark and it does fire. After it starts that once it will not start again so I took out the plugh on cylinder number 1 and a crap load of gas came pouring out of the cylinder like over a tablespoon. same with cylinder 2. so i think it may be carbouration.
