All good answers, and I understand that safety mainly comes down to the driver, but compared to other cars in general, how will a 3rd Gen hold up in a crash? I mean I'll definately drive as safe as possible, and I'll try to avoid a T-Top model, but in a freak accident (Especially with tanks like SUVs and Hummers on the road) I'd like to be in something with decently sturdy build.

So I mean, if you had to give 3rd Gen Camaros a safety rating like on a scale from 1-10 or up to 5 Stars, what would you say? Because they are extremely nice looking cars in my opinion, but I don't want to kill myself looking cool you know?

It would be very hard to answer that question. You would have to take several things into account like HP, brakes, suspension, tires, road conditions. Also are we comparing it to all cars ever made in the history of man or just cars made in the eighties and early ninetys or just muscle/sports cars. In the end who cares what other people think get what you want and just remember to respect yourself and other drivers while you are on the road. Unless they drive a ricer then screw um

New seals fixes the leaks, and sub frame connectors eliminates them if you're making a lot of power. Mine leak but it's well worth it IMHO to be able to pop them off on a cool summer evening and head out to a cruise in.

BTW, a common misconception is that T top cars are weaker than hard tops. As far as 3rd gens go, this is false. They share basically the same T cross bar, the thin sheet metal on a hard top does nothing to increase the cars structural integrity.

Buy a tank.....if you want safety, but again it depends on where you would drive it.

If you're that concerned about safety; put a roll cage in it. You can pass it off by claiming you make so much power that you need it or you'd turn the car into a pretzel by hitting the gas.

'course, then you'd have to do some engine work so you're not full of crap by saying so

Default Yeah, I feel safe

I have owned a 91 RS v-8 for about 30 hrs now, and after driving it home from 100 miles away, I feel just as safe as if I was in my 2003 Grand Marquis.

The RS does have 150,000 miles on it, and I might be 50, but I drive both cars a little more aggressively than the average guy my age..

and I am fairly solid, too 5'8, 400 lbs.

buy your third generation, and enjoy it.. I drove my first Camaro in 1985, should have bought it., but didn't

been waiting 25 years to own one.

I was rearended in my old 85 z28 (no airbags, t-top, etc) by a durango doing 40 mph while i was at a complete stop.

Thinking my rear end was ruined, I get out after we managed to pull off the highway (yes.. you read that right. Complete stop on a highway. Gogo northern state and traffic!). I look at the back of my car... bumper slightly pushed in, taillight cracked, rear passenger quarter panel bent a bit. Frame bent as well. I look at the durango, entire front end smashed in. Leaking antifreeze all over. headlights falling out and hanging my wire. Airbags deployed etc.

ALl were ok luckily, but a bad wreck for that suv.

Cops come... I drive home fine. Bring it into the shop, 1500 to straighten the frame and fix the damage.

Against hitting another car, I feel far safer in my camaro than I do in my 2001 blazer or my gf's 2003 sentra.

All depends on how you are hit too. Front end collision, you're pretty bad anyway. Hitting a solid object like a wall or a tree, I'd probably rather be in the plastic crumple cars.... (Force of hitting a brick wall traveling through the steel = pain when it hits you. Yay physics.)

On the road though, I feel far safer in the camaro vs other drivers.

Take that for what it's worth. My camaro was my first car.... As long as you don't drive like a complete ***, and learn what your car and tires can handle, you'll be fine.

I really recommend if you get a 3rd gen, going out to a huge empty parking lot on days where it's raining, or even dry, or snow if you are going to be driving it in snow at all, and just try things and learn.

That said, Camaros are tons of fun. And sometimes taking your car past its limits can be fun too. Just use your head and don't be stupid. Let that stang (cough... cant believe I said that) beat you if it means you might risk hurting yourself or others in the process. Better to have your life and in many cases your baby (aka car) safe.

5' 8" and 400 lbs? Is that a typo? You better feel safe because if you get in an accident they wont even be able to load you on a stretcher...... 8*o
