I replaced the coolant temp sensor in my RS twice. I had trouble with my tranny (700r4) would go in and out of lock up as it was warming. I couldn't get a straight answer from anyone I talked to. I changed the temp sensor, and it quit. I figured since the temp sensor tells the ECM to start lock up after 130 ish degrees it could have been the sensor, and it was. So it controls closed loop, then I understand the thing about running rich.

yup. if it still reads cold, then it will add more fuel to compensate for what it thinks should be denser air. i was also misinformed years ago and which sensor to remove to add a sending unit for a gauge. i was told to remove the cold start sensor. after that, the car wouldnt start below 30 degrees without eather
