Default How long does yours crank

hey guys . I have been working on bikes for some time and carbeurated or fuel injected ive had teh same problem.
The starter cranks for 3 seconds before the engine starts.
is this normal with the camaros, because I have made my bikes always start within the 2 second mark. 1 full revolution of teh starter is all they need.
Does anyone have a 3rd gen thats tuned so well it starts quick??

My 91 with TBI took a few revolutions before it would start. It was consistent no matter what the weather, so it wasn't a problem. By nature, TPI would be more of a tap of the key start.

I only have that problem when I first start it in the morning. After that it starts right up. I've got a carb in mine.

when cold, my engine takes forever to start. 3-5 second cranking, fires, coughs, die. crank another 5 while slightly holding the gas, and it fires and stumbles around a bit, but setttles down. once its at 150, it idles great. at operating temp, it takes less than a second to start. but my car is far from stock. i would say cranking more than 5 seconds with a stock engine is when there is an issue, and it will more than likely be fuel related

Back when mine was running, it generally started on the third crank. Although, it sometimes wouldn't crank if it was hot, and I never did get that issue fixed.

But well, it's s'posed to get a new engine this year so we'll see how it does when that gets done.

cars that run carbs and or TBI sit on Intake manifolds... you knew that, what you need to know is, TBI and carbs are air fuel atomizer's.... you probably knew that too.

on a cold day or not having been ran for any length of time. the atomized fuel condenses into raw fuel and or vapors off in the intake manifold leaving it full of air... not fuel...

the car has to via pistons make vacuum drawing fuel though needles or the blades to atomize the fuel and air mixture. this has not a HUGE distance to cover but the processes has to happen.. IE 5~10 revolutions 2~10 seconds what ever your motor truly does or how it is tunned affects this good or bad. my 98 firebird that is EFI when you turn the key to on before you pass to start it pulses the injectors and primes the system in a split second, then the ambient air in the intake manifold is drawn in and basically it instantly starts... this though also is related to engine health and other factors.

hope i made some sense, its pretty basic principles. think about tunnel ram setups... granted they run twice the carb but they still have a greater distance to atomize fuel to a spark.

its funny though once the car is running or warm the atomized fuel kinda stays ambient in the intake, and when you restart the car its pretty instant.
