My brother has a 91 Camaro RS and a couple of months ago it was broken into and the module (I'm guessing is what it's called) was stolen. A few days later it was returned but the computer chip was missing and the car won't start without it. Does anyone know exactly what it is called so I know what I'm looking for exactly and maybe where I can get one? He went to the dealer and they claim they don't make them anymore. He's desperate since it's his only car. I looked on Ebay and found something that says it's a chip thatgives more horsepower but I'm not sure if this is the right thing. If anyone can help that would be great!

 

Are you sure they did not take the whole ECM (silver colored box 4"x10" est)??? If that is gone you willneed the ECM + the Prom (chip) for it . If you need just the Prom and the Dealer no longer stock it Just buy a off the shelf Hypertech chip for your engine & tanny type. What you saw on E-bay is NOT what you want. Do a web search for the Prom. But again make sure it is for your model year, engine and trannt type.

 

Thanks so much. I already contacted a store. They said it's made byJet Performance but there's a stage 1 and stage 2 chip. Which do you think would be best? Thanks in advance.

 

Just buy the stage one chip to get you going, it is almost a stock but has some minor changes. The stage 2 one requires a 160 deg thermostat and you don;t need that.

 

guys a jet chip wont make a car not run... they dont do much in anyway.

 

He can not find a stock chip, so the Jet chip is just a option. Note: That I said it is "almost stock with some minor changes".[sm=chairshot.gif]

 

i thought the jet chips plug into you computer not replace it.
