Headers and stright pipes
Would headers and stright pipes be a bad idea for a 1987 camaro with a 350 crate? i dont really care about how loud it would be because its not going to be a daily driver. i am more concerned with is will it sound pretty good, or like a really bad exhuast leak. i dont have enough money for flowmasters, just a good set of headers. has anyone done this or seen it done? any advice counts, thanks!
Straight pipes, as in NO cats or mufflers? Legal issues aside, it will sound mean as hell. Im guessing almost too loud, judging by the sound of most circle track race cars. They run headers to straight pipes. You will go deaf. Just put on a set of cherry bombs. They cost bout 25 bucks each and sound WAY better than flowmasters.
If you have money for headers, buy them now and put em away till you but the rest of the system. Keep in mind how tough it is to get true duels on a third gen. Don't half *** it, or it will be not pretty loud, but a ridiculous white trash loud.... Plus if done poorly it will probobly stink up the inside of the car. If you bought the correct headers (less than 200 bucks probobly), just wait till you get the mufflers. Flow master 40's are about 90 a piece. I know they make a kit for 3rd gens that isn't too bad on the wallet. Put it in perspective, if you spent good money on a motor, don't affect the one thing that everyone will hear and could end you up in the hotseat.
