Tell her insurance co. that you want the car replaced, you don't want a check. Then tell them you also want to keep your car too! If they squabble, tell them to talk to your attorney. I've been through this before, and in most cases they'll gladly buy the replacement, and allow you to approve the car before they buy it.
I had to look at 4-5 cars when my '67 Chevelle was totalled, before I accepted one. But in the end I got my wrecked car, and the replacement too, so I could make one nice car out of the two.

Absolutely! Since you're the victim in this, they can do what you want, or see you in court where they'll probably lose big time. What defense can they have when their client ran a stop sign?
If you want an equal 1991 Camaro, rather than a check, they should accommodate you.

It is all about negotiation. They don’t want to go out and find you a car but its cheaper then going to court. If you find a similar car, say in an add, and tell them that’s what you want they may say fine and make the check out for that amount. Remember to them 2K is nothing. They will have to pay someone to find you cars to look at. Just don’t go to far like point out a 02 SS or something like that.

Depending on your states laws they may be willing to negotiate a lot if you are willing to sign away your right to sue for injury. Unless you sign something you have up to a year to decide to sue or not.

A word or warning, I was rear ended at the age of 23 and I got “whiplash”. I found out years later it was a disk. It never healed 100%.
