If you're wanting more horsepower, i think you should go with a bigger block (350). 305s are about all you get in engine parts but for a 350, you can put in a bigger crank and make it a 383 (there's also a hell of a lot more you can do).

There's nothing wrong with the 305. There's no reason to get a whole new motor, it's alot of money, hassel, and time. I say go for headers and exhaust. It's reasonable in price, and it'll make your car run and sound better.

Put one of those 'coon can' muffler tips on. It will add, like, 50 HP!

No offense meant, but thats what we call em...and most kids believe it

Seriously, you need to open up your

1) Intake
Carb/injection/air filter. Slap on a K&N filer and bigger carb/injector system. WORTHLESS without...

2)Exhaust
Headers and dual exhaust. I know its serious money and time, but it will make the biggest gain.

Good luck...

I'll ask again, is it TBI or TPI? There's a HUGE difference when dealing with intakes...

not sure if this is true, but i have heard that its actually more of a gain if you run the single 3 inch pipe instead of running two 2 and a half inch pipes down the car. Now i mighta been fooled, but its just what i heard.

Sorry, everyone else, I'm going with Red Dragon on this one. The gears and posi are the best 1st upgrade. It'll give Him a feeling of accomplishment and create a want to continue the upgrading. The gears will be a seat of the pants feel and be worth it.

I would go for one of the X-Stream air cleaners made by K&N. It'll require minor mods for the PCV system, but it's pretty simple. You've got room for a 3"x14" cleaner, and I would remove the hood insulation as well, if it were mine, just to get some more cooling and airflow. I think some of the cleaners they have offer provisions for a PCV system, but you will still need to make a line for it (I used some fuel hose and two of the breather filter pipes that came stock on that motor for mine.) You should probably call K&N and tell them what you're doing and ask them what they can offer for that application, may be easier that way. And the kits run about $130, and are really easy to install.
