Fan Sensor

Fan Sensor
I just recently bought a 1991 Camaro RS and I'm loving it!! The only problem is that the temperature doesn't seem to stay in one place it goes up to 3/4 and stays for a while, and then goes down. It never over heats or gets passed 3/4 but has me worried. My dad said that the fan might not be turning on. So he told me to look for a part called the fan sensor and find out were it goes. I can't seem to find it anywhere. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

easiest thing is to first verify that you have coolant
next, does the temp keep rising as you are driving 30mph or more? If so, does it then begin to drop and do it all over again? You probably have a 180 or 195 degree thermostat (no way of knowing without removing) so at 30mph or greater, the temp should not rise beyond 195 (estimate on your gauge)
if it does, then you are probably missing the air dam underneath the car
there is very little opening on the front of the 3rd gens to allow the flow of air(none on the 4th or vettes) so the air dam is a must

that factory fan sensor is programmed to turn on at 240 degrees. yes, that is hot. thats how they made the vehicle to operate as it would produce less emmisions. get the car up to temp, then let it sit and idle without the heater on. after about 10 minutes or so the fans should kick on. just be paitent and watch. if it gets to 255 or higher, then shut it down and let it cool. does your a/c work and does that turn the fans on?

Like micro said, turning the A/C on will turn the fan on. In your first post you said the fan may or may not be turning on. If you have never heard the fan come on, do what micro said, there can only be a few reasons it isn't coming on.
temp not high enough (likely)
blown fuse (possible)
bad relay (possible)
temp control switch unhooked (possible)
fan motor burned out. (very unlikely)
