Default engine is put together but wnt strt!

hey guys,i finally finished putting together my 89 tpi 5.7 and it dose not want to start. I already had to turn the distributor because it was just back firing, but now its ok. It turns over good, i can hear the valves when i crank it,normal till adjusted?I have spark, fuel pressure and if i spray starting fluid in the throtle it will just pop. I put headers on it and it still has no piping just open.could that be it? sometimes it kinda wants to start but then it brakes my heart hahahah jk okay thanks for reading and any comments would help. also idid check all the grounds and conections on it ill doubLe check. GRACIAS!

make sure your not 180 degrees off. i'm sure your aware of this but, here's a reminder the cycle doesn't begin on the compression stroke. it begins on the exhaust stroke. you don't time it to the first time the piston comes up. you time it to the second. there should be no valves opening or closing on the compression stroke. i still do it mistakenly sometimes. sick
