Cooling Fan Questions - 1986 IROC-Z
I am new to the forum, and fairly new to Chevrolet Camaros. I recently bought an 86 IROC-Z and I am wondering what the stock cooling fan configuration was on these cars.. were they originally equipped with an electric fan?
The car I have does have an electric fan, and it comes on immediately when I turn the ignition to the on position. I don't really care for that - I am actually wondering if a previous owner wired it that way on purpose, or if they just didn't know what they were doing. I have had plenty of cars with electric fans, and they have all had thermostats / temp probes that trigger the fan to come on when the radiator reaches a certain temperature. I would rather have the fan behave that way.. I am guessing I could probably just buy a universal temp probe and relay kit that could make the fan work in that manner? Any suggestions? Thanks in advance!

When A/C or DEF is selected, fan(s) come on. If fans on continuously, as the relay is ECM controlled, the ECM coolant temp sensor maybe bad or its plug wired telling the ECM engine is hot and therefore, the ECM is commanding fans on. ECM temp sensor is about the front collat runner of intake manifold.
