Default console removal

I am removing the center console to paint the carpet black. How do you remove the upper console w/o cracking it, and also how do you remove the lower console?

thanks for the reply I did it yesterday what gave me a problem on the upper was the e-brake handle and the trim piece around the radio. The problem on the lower was again the e-brake, but I think it looks pretty good. I was just going to paint the lower but after I got them both out I decided to go ahead and paint the upper console as well. It looks good if you ask me. Gonna get some pics up in the next few days.
