Carb Installation Help
Hey everyone
I'm trying to install a new Holley Quadrajet on my brother's 1986 Trans Am, which still has all emissions equipment. I have a couple of issues.
1. The carburetor instructions have one of the connections on the front of the carb labeled "purge." Where on the engine should this hose go?
2. The carburetor has a tiny clearance issue with the EGR valve on the car. I don't have time to eliminate the EGR system, and if I raise the carb by just a milimeter or so I should be able to mount it. I am planning on cutting a second gasket and mounting it on top of the first, to raise the carb just a tiny bit, so I will have two gaskets installed. Is this a bad idea?
3. I assume if I don't connect the EEC hoses to anything, since the new carb doesn't have two connections for them, that everything will run fine? The car does not need to pass emissions, I plan on just plugging up the EEC hoses.
Any help is appreciated.

On second thought, if anyone knows anywhere I can find a diagram telling me the names of the hose connections on the stock carb, that would probably be enough for the "purge" issue. Internet search so far hasn't been helpful.
The purge port is what the charcoal canister connects to, if your brother still has his can connected as it came from the factory.
That's "ported" vacuum, the same type as what the distributor vacuum advance uses.

Any unused vacuum ports on the carb must be capped off, and you'll have no problems. The charcoal canister is what the gas tank vents through, and the purge hose connected to the carb sucks in and burns the fumes. Leaving that stuff connected is better (gas fumes not venting into the air), both for the environment and for safety reasons.
