ok number one an intake does not cost $800. and two, a cam cost $150 but if you have someone do it, it would be lk a $500 installation fee. and three, heads cost anywhere between $800-1400.

No, do not go with synthetic oil. Very serious!!! You don't want to put anything that good in an old car, I just did that and it broke up so much sludge that it clogged the drain back ports in the heads and screwed a lot of things up. I just got it running again and I hope that nobody makes the same mistake as me, I didn't know any better.

the only intake is the edelbrock intake, which is $500 for the base and $300 for the runner. i do a lot of highway driving, and an engine swap is out of the question for a few years as i need to use this car every day, i have no garage or power tools, and no one to help me

Good God, you're notseriously considering theedelbrock TPI manifold and runners are you? $800 for an intake manifoldon a 305 chevy engine is insane. I'm not saying they are bad parts, just that they are expensive parts...I took a stockTPI manifoldand ported it as big as it would go and it matched the Edelbrock large bore gaskets. I got the manifold on ebay for $25. Then I got the SLP siamesed runners for $230. If nothing else, you can get the aftermarketintakes on ebay for less...You could then siamese the plenum to match the runners, and port the manifold base to match the hi-flow edelbrock one. Don't be suckered into the $800 rip-off. If you're looking for 50 hp over stock and you're apperently half way there with exhaust, (sure?) there's cheaper ways to do that than buying an $800 intake. For example, install and air foil, K&N filter with a cold air box, and get a custom chip programmed for $100 at tbichips.com. I got mine custom made there for my fuel system, cam, headsetc. and he was great and it was only $100. That with your exhaust (I'm assuming headers and cat back) should get you close. I mean, I hate nitrous personally, but if nothing else, you could buy a50 horse shot of nitrous forway less than$800 although the engine (especially pistons) wouldn't last too long...

Oh ok, well then if you do all that in your original post, you should hit your 50 horse over stock goal....don't need the intake to do that....I'm just saying, don't screw yourself outta 800 bucks...just watchin your back bro'...Good luck! Let me know how it turns out!
