Default brakes locking up?

When i first start up my car and get moveing in a parking lot or someplace where i dont get over 10mph, when i hit the brakes to slow down, it seems like i just SLAMMED on them. But as soon as i get over say 15 or 20mph, everything is fine. I have a 89 RS and the rear end has drum brakes. Whats the deal? Are they getting a little bit stuck? Wearing out? What? Im not gona lie, im not a car buff by any means, so i have NO idea what the problem could be. but it seems like the passenger side rear locks up when this is happening, espically if the ground is wet. Im not pushin the brakes hard or anything. Any ideas on whats wrong with this thing?

Several Things Could Be The Culprit. Are You Loosing Any Brake Fluid? If You Have Gotten Air In Your System It Can Cause Problems Like You Have Described. Sick

na, fluid levels are fine, but i guess i could bleed the lines anyway, it needs to be done, maybe there is indeed air in the line. Thanks.

I dont know if my last post took.

Im betting 5 dollars you have a small leak in your brake piston. I had a Plymouth do this years ago to me, Id start the car, drive a few feet and the first time I hit the brake, the rear right would lock up. I tore her apart and found a small leak in the piston boot. Good luck.

That would seem like a good place to start. If you suspect it is the brake adjuster, go in reverse to a considerable speed and then hit the brakes real hard to set the self adjuster.

You could take it to Jiffy Lube and tell them you have a brake leak, and you'd like them to fix it by putting oil in the system, then call corporate and tell them you want your brakes replaced because some dolt put a petroleum product in your brake system. Worked for my stepdad in his Tacoma. Of course, the car won't be able to move, so you'll have to get it towed out of there.....
