my dad said the catch wasnt really necessary cuz im not dripping THAT much oil, and i could just clean the filter with break cleaner when it gets gunky...

1) is that still a solution?
2) do i have to let the air filter dry COMPLETELY? (i dont wanna have odd fluids where they shouldnt be)

and mike, i know next to nothing about cars... so, whats a cat? lol

If you have oil dripping inside your air cleaner, you have a serious blow-by issue. Is a catch can necessary for you? No. But if you're cleaning oil off your air filter fairly often, then a catch will be more of a convenience in the long run. And I presume you have a paper air filter element? Cleaning it with a solvent is only going to last so long (or short) before it starts to break apart, or the paper cells just clog up and stop taking in air. Then the oil accumulation will just move to a different area.

is it red in color? could be a k&n type filter that u can clean but need to oil carefully after cleaning. two much oil on filter can lead to sensor falure. they make kits to clean and oil.

Hey, here's a thought. If it's a K&N, the blow-by will make the filter self-oiling!
