Default Back To Third Gen Camaros!

I used to have an 86 Z28 with a 400 small block.... Well that car's gone and I am about to get a project car.
It's a 89 Rally sport. Red with T-Tops! Finally a camaro with T-tops! It had a 305 but has no motor in it now (whew- I can't stand the RS 305's anyways) Im going to get a Carbed 350 for it. Correct me if Im wrong but doesn't this car have the 700R4 Auto? and will it bolt up to any sbc?

you are correct on both of them. If your lookin for a manual transmission, i would suggest a t56 transmission for any kind of serious power. Im pushin a decent amount of power and i only have a t5, i need to upgrade before i destroy this poor thing.

It has the 700R4. Might as well look for a strong counterpart because any motor with decent HP will just turn it into mush.

Yeah, And guess what Im trading for it...an 88 Escort GT. Before You laugh at it being an escort, It's a GT. It has a 5 speed manual, 1.9L High Output with a four into 1 header, sport tuned suspension, low profile tires, ground effects, A spare set of rims and tires, It is actually pretty fast. I think its got about 130-150 horsepower but dont quote me on that. It is not running at the moment. But the guy Im trading it to is a mechanic, The entire top end of the motor has been rebuilt i think that the timing is off and when the guy changed the heads he didnt set them at top dead center.. so it's almost ready to run.

Yeah I can get a T56 out of any 93-02 Z28/Trans Am but i probably wont go through all that trouble. Ill just get a B&M shift kit for the 700R4. And then I want the Ripper Shifter.

ive never had a problem with the 700r4. My 86 Z had the 700r4 with a mildly built 400 small block and didnt have a problem with the tranny at all.

Your 700r4 should hold up to 300 or 350 ponies if it's in decent shape, but not if you run that through it all the time. If you find that the stock tranny won't hold up, and stay with a manual, there's a company out there that I can track down for you that sells a 700r4 that's built to stand like 600 horses for a little over a grand.
