91 rs suspension question
I just bought a 91 rs v8 5spd it scrapes on every thing, small pot holes even crossing over the crown of the road unless I go really slow. Is that normal for these with the ground effects? I thought I may need to change out the springs any thoughts? I have read that the Z28 in 91 had an upgraded suspension what is the difference between the RS and Z28 just springs and sway bars?? Can I swap the Z28 parts from the wrecking yard into my RS.
You have 19year old car and you want to swap in another old car parts. Your best bet is to upgade your front Struts & rear shocks as a start and then go to new springs if you are stiill low. However; to answer your question...Yes, you can swap the parts from Z28 to a RS. Only difference was the spring weight & swaybar size.
The main thing my old 91 RS (with 120k miles) would bottom out in the front was a driveway having a high angle of approach. Take the car up and in at an angle, not straight in, and it clears just fine. And it didn't clear some parking curbs either. But I didn't consider my suspension to be sagging, or sitting too low. You might want to look at pictures of ones online to compare a stock stance to a lowered one. If you're scraping on anything higher than a pebble, there is a possibility that some previous owner lowered your car. That, or your roads just plain suck.
Great thanks yep I have been learning about driveways. I have owned 1 ton trucks for years I could roll over any thing now I need to look out for all this small stuff. One of the guys at work said he had a camaro like this and the hieght looks right, so I will start with the shocks and struts. I am in oregon so yes the roads suck! but i feel there are other issues to. Thank you for the advice ans information.
