91 camaro with a tired engine/drivetrain
Hey, I was looking at the sticky, 325hp out of a 305, and it looks like an interesting project for my camaro. Defiantly been planning a rebuild of my 305 tbi for sometime now, thinking of starting it in a couple months. My engine/drivetrain has well over 100,000 miles on it. What do you guys think of this build up? I have the World class T-5 in right now, is this going to wreck my tranny? I think the rating is about 300ft/lbs of torque. Im not sure what gears I have in my rear, but was planning a rear axle/drivesaft swap from a LS1, sometime after this, I believe the gears in the LS1 LSD are 3.42 is this going to work well with the new 305? I guess my main question will my old drivetrain be able to support 317 ft/lbs of torque? Because i would plan on doing the rear axle and DS after this. I would also plan on new piston/rings and bore job. Any other comments on this?
Thanks

GM did not offer the T-5 with the 350 because it could not handle the torque. How long it will last depends on how you drive. If your a keep your foot out of it 97% of the time it could last awhile. If you are hvy footed it will not last long. The T5 is used in the 4gens V-6 as a guide I have been told I should not have issue until I hit 280HP range. These 3.8's at 280 HP will have a lot less torque then your small block.

Yeah I see your point, but the torque is 300 so were only talking like 17ft/lbs over, but yeah i agree. So i guess ill just be lightfooted with it until I get a T56. I saw this one retrofitted specifically for a T-5, but its also fairly pricy, would I be better off looking for a low mileage 4th gen that has been in some sort of accident? What kind of modifications would I need to do?

Did some reading on the T56, I think im just going to build up the 305 and swap the entire driveline from an LT1 Camaro, the T56 in those is said to be the easiest to do this with, I'll return to this thread when I start the build as well as do a complete writeup with pictures and such, this build is definitely going to be alot different than most other Camaro builds I've seen, I'm exited!
