'87 Constantly Choking or simply not starting
I have a 1987 T-Top V8 5.0
It has been choking constantly when I try to start. That is, if it starts. It will either start and immediately choke out, OR it will simply grind like it is trying to start and will not. I just got a brand new battery and it's alternator is less than a year old. I'm using this vehicle to travel to and from school twice a week, almost an hour drive, and I need to be able to rely on it to get me back and forth. Any suggestions on how to fix this problem?

Wait, so its a qjet model? That is what I had. I also had problems with it starting when I would shut it off, then try to start it up (<10 mins). It ended up being a lot of different things.
1. Make sure your choke is opening correctly. My linkage was pretty gnarly and it was always closed just a tiny bit. Also, make sure your base gasket, air cleaner, and all vac lines are good.
2. My fuel pump (mech) was weak and it would leak and lose prime. Don't know why this would happen more hot than cold though.
3. cat was clogged.
Once I cleaned all that up it was pretty good.

Yeah in the winter i get the same problem with my 92... choke for some reason sticks closed in the cold weather. Try feathering gas a bit when starting not too much though. Could be many things though as djs stated get those things checked out.!
