Default 86 z28 tpi, slow to prime

I have to turn my car over 3 times before it will prime, and then after that, it starts right up. What could be causing this?
Any help is greatly appreciated.

Common symptom of a failing fuel pump.

It could be something else that is allow the fuel to empty out but with no other symptoms like smoke when starting or the smell of raw gas it is most likely either a weak pump or a bad check valve. Both are fixed by replacing the pump.

Of course you would want to confirm this with a fuel pressure gage.
