400 block or 383 stroker?
hi, i was wondering if anyone could help me out on deciding wether i build a 383 stroker engine or if i should go with a 400 and stroking that one? i know a little about the 383 but not much about the 400 so any info would really help, thanks.

It is not a good idea to stroke a used 400 factory block, these things were designed for low RPM torque and the bottom end doesn't like high revs. If you want to build a 400 block, you will be much better off getting a new 400 block with 4 bolt splayed mains, and you can safely build it to 450+ inches. Check World Ptoducts, as an example.

Well right now i have a 400 block in it with 030 over & a 3.75 crank but one of my valves dropped on my piston & cracked the cylinder, i dont think its fixable so i was looking to build one myself & i have been looking for a 400 block & it aint that easy to find, how much of a difference would it be if i just built a 383?

Well, I see another Tucson guy, welcome. First, I've seen a lot of 400's here that aren't anything but sonora junk. I don't think there is much difference in building either. In fact, I think you'll have a better choice when it comes to head selection. By the way, have you figured out how to get it through emissions....I took quite a few tries until I figured it out.

I've found few complete 400's but dont want to spend $1000 cause i dont need it complete i would have to take it apart anyways to performence it. But what do you mean head selection? I've found 210cc aluminum dart 1 head for $400, thought that would be the best way to go so my valve wont drop again. & i got my plates with a nogales address that way it wouldnt require to pass the emissions. So which one would be best to go with though?
