I rebuilt an '87 bmw 3 series lsd that I used to own when I was living in Ireland. It worked out perfect but was a real b***h to do. I no its not going to be easy but I think I can handle it

Rebuilding a LSD unit is a lot different than setting up gears. Here's everything you'll need at a minimum:

http://www.jegs.com/i/Richmond-Gear/...oductId=744534
http://www.jegs.com/i/JEGS/555/81655...oductId=963654

You'll also need things like a hydraulic shop press for the bearings and the initial squishing of the crush sleeve and an in/lbs beam type torque wrench for setting back lash and pinion preload. Assorted hand tools like hammers, sockets, drift punches, ft/lbs torque wrench, etc. will be needed.

Advice to you: Fnd another project to spend

1) correct
2) good to go
3) 100% correct!
4 and 5...........disagree. totally disagree. the single biggest increase Ive ever made on my car was going from 2.77's to 3.73's. If you shop around you can get the gears and have em installed for less than 500 bucks.

I always do the set-up with another set of bearings that I have opened up with a flapper wheel and die-grinder. You can get all your shimming correct, than bring it down to your local shop that has a press and they can press them together for you for a few $$$.
(that was until I bought my own press)
