Default 1989 z28

hello all im new here 2nd post.

i just got an 89 z28 from a friend for free with no engine or trans in it the body is straight and the interior is nice best part free, anyways i live in California and the smog rules here are a pain, i wanted to know if i am able to drop in a 93 corvette 5.7l motor will this work? or has any one done this before could use as much guidance as possible thanks all.

it wont pass smog. you will need to go to a referee station first and you should be able to get it approved there then you can just take it to a regular smog shop when you need a smog check

what is a referee station is that like the CHP station ? never herd that term sorry, thanks for the quick response

No such model as a Z28 in 1989, it is a IROC or RS....

a referee station is where you go if you want to put a newer engine in your car or upgrade from carb to fuel injection. or if you make your own car. what they do is they confirm that your engine is an engine from a car that is newer than yours and is an upgrade and not a downgrade smog wise. to find one go onto the dmv website and there should be a number you call.

Thats because its the 1989 IROC-Z28.

Again NO Z-28 model in 1989 regardless of the badges. And for the remark it a IROC-Z28 the Z28 was dropped in 1988 and was know as IROC.

alright well then some one stuck z28 badges all over the car to be cool...obviously i know nothing of camaro's
