Default 1989 RS

Hey I just started digging into the 89 RS I bought last week and discovered that it has center-bolt valve covers? I didn't realize they had them for those model years. (funny thing is the valve covers look exactly like the ones on my 1998 Chevy truck) The intake is aluminum and everything appears to be original. Especially since every piece of smog equipment is still there. Tomorrow I will be replacing the transmission since it only has reverse. The car has a 305 and I was wondering what the HP rating was for this model. Oh yeah I saved it from being parted out! The guy had the tranny go out and thought the car was only worth parts!

I think the valve covers went to center bolt in 87. The same year they changed the angle of the center intake bolts. The 89 305 TBI had 150 ponies

You can take the whole top end (heads, intake manifold, throttle body) off of a 95-98 vortec 305 or 350 and it should bolt right onto your block and give you planty of ponies for cheap money. You will need to change the wiring harness as well but im not too sure on that yet. And if you want to keep your throttle body there is no intake manifold for your throttle body and vortec heads trust me ive done plenty of looking i have the same engine.

you could always get a 4bbl manifold, buy an adapter plate for the TBI to mount to the new manifold and use it that way... i dont know how well this does or dosent work. but it would be a working system
