Talking 1983 E-Brake questions

Hello guys, I have recently been forced to park in areas with moderate inclines and would like to know what I can do to get my e-brake to actually work. Since I bought the car last year I have been parking it so that my tire catches the curb and doesn't roll at all, but I really should just fix it already. I will be posting in the project section in a few days but for now it's this thing first.

I am willing to put in the wrench work but could someone tell me if there is an adjustment to make or if I should buy an e brake kit. NOTE that right now there is little resistance from the brake and that it goes almost vertical......lol.

It's a 1983 z-28 5L with a 5 speed manual trans if that is needed. Thanks in advance!

Your cables are most likely stretched. Parts will cost under 75 bucks and can be installed in an afternoon.
