Default 12 bolt rear

any of you messed with this? i know this one in particular has an 8 lug axel. So those would need to be replaced, and it would have to be made narrower. But is there anything else? or is this one just a bad idea from the get go. Reason i ask is i have a 3.73 out of a late 70's pickup that i can have.

I've never tried this swapbut I got a question for you, are you sure it's a 12 bolt with an8 lug axle? My 80 chev p/u has a 14 bolt with an 8 lug pattern and these axles are huge.I'msure anything is possible but I just wanted to indicate that the 8 lug came bothas full floating and semi-floating. Sorry I couldn'tgive you apositive answer to your question. HTH

That is what I was thinking also. And it probably comes with some big gears, I have seen these rears with 5:12 gears. This is a real heavy duty piece, much stronger than 12 bolt or Ford 9" that most people are familiar with, and it sucks up even more power than the Ford 9". One thing about it, you don't have to worry about breaking it. Used one of these many years ago in a blown Chrysler "A" gasser turning mid 9 times, and that was the only part that never broke.

it might not have been a 8 lug, but id prolly have to change that anyway. its got a set of 3.73 gears in it though, at least this is what i was told. Hes about the just throw it away and i thought i might check it out. If it dont work, it dont work, no big deal. no money lost. As long as i decide not to try and make it work! My dad put a 12 bolt in our 68 pickup, between that and the 4 speed tranny ( about the size of a whole bus! lol), that truck will PULL PULL PULL. Even with just a 350 in that truck, its quiet capable of pullin as much or more as our 2500HD
