i'm not big on rearend codes but, if you pull the pan and look inside the carrier if you see 4 spider gears it's open if you see a spring loaded clutch type plate it's a posi.

A 69 Z-28 would have came with a 12 bolt
If the posi is half way in good shape turn one axle and if the other axle turns the same way it is more than likely a posi, or hold one axle and try to turn the other if it turns the pinion then it is an open rear end or a posi that is blown.
I picked up a 12 bolt posi with 4:11 gears in it for 50$ because it was wore out and the guy didnt know it was a posi
so the only real way to know is to pull the cover and look
the code on the housing will only tell you what it came with from the factory, chances are that it has been changed being that it was made in 1969
its no big deal to remove the cover just 10 bolts and if you worried about the oil then just tilt the nose down and the oil will not leak out when you remove the cover, and just a little silicone will seal it back up
