I have a 1981 camaro and I am looking for info on what the widest tire/ rim to fit without rubbing . This car does not have any rear end mods or body mods to the rear of car. Car currently has 275/60/15 bfgs on Weld Draglite 15X8 Rims. I am fine with this but I can get a set of 345/50/15 drag radials cheap so thats why i am asking. Thanks for the input.

the widest u could ever go is maybe a 315 with the proper back spacing, but never a 345 way to big, they would either stick out 4 inch past ur wheel well or set in way to far u could never bolt the rim on,all depends on the back spacing of the rim, damon runs 315/45/17 and there only about an 1/8" from rubbing on the fraim rail.a 315/60/15 would be ecuvalent to the same size as that .im also runing a 305/60/15 and there very tight fitting.

from what I understand 15X10 with 5.5" b.s. and a 1/4" spacer or ( just 5.25" Backspace if you could get it) with a tire like BFG p295/50 with stiff lateral control (air shocks, raising the car an inch, or stiff sway bars, or just performance shocks..) though some hammering may be involved. The 15X10 wheel helps straighten the tire out versus a P295/50 on a 15X8 bulging out. Please correct me if I'm mistaken.

It also depends on whether you're willing to roll your lip on the wheelwell. Once you get into max width tires you need to start looking at more than just bolting on tires and wheels.
Either way the 325 drag radials will be out without major changes.

I am runnnig 275/50-17. I have about a 1/2" away from my frame/shocks and I have plenty of room for the suspension to fully travel without any problems. I feel more comfortable with running a smaller width so I dont have to worry about a rubbing issue arising. I could probally run a 305 tire and get it to fit right. Then you have to worry about when you launch if your suspension is going to swat to much and make them rub. I don't have any problems with the 275's. Unless you are having a traction problem I would stick with the 275's you are running now.
