Default newbie- help on headers

Well just recently my dad gave me the go ahead to start fixing his 1970 rs camaro, the engine was doing fine until i was on the freeway doin about 80 and the engine started to give me trouble, anyway long story short, somepush rods were broken and the pistons are messed up, so i'm gonna give it an overhaul, it's a 327 sband i was wondering what kind of headers could goon it?

If your engine is in as bad a shape as you say I would worry about headers last. What kind of exhaust is on it now?

Does it have headers on it now?
You can put any set of that is made for that year car and engine combo, some slight modification might be needed to clear the steering box on some models. I have a hunch it already has headers on it now, if nothing is wrong with them just keep them for now. If you are looking for sound the easiest way would be for larger diameter pipes comming from the headers.
Got any pictures of the engine bay?

sorry but i don't, the motor already got pulled out to be repaired, they are just gonna replace all the used up parts and install a hotter cam..... we'll thats what the mechanic told me. The thing is that whoever repaired it before did a horrible job, the cam they put in was for a truck, to haul things....

Keep in mind before you buy headers---if you change to aftermarket heads you need to know what kindof plug type it has as in angle or straight plug holes. You could run into problems there fitting your headers.

Maybe done due to expense, their cheap. But not the right direction, as Chevy really went down hill even further with the HP #'s from the late 70's into the mid 80's. To think a 130hp v8 lol.... Or maybe they just used it to tow a boat

damn sorry people... i just barely got my computer back... and realized i posted this threadhahaha... been a while since i checked this thread... sorry again...

hotrod momma: i have no idea what they where thinking when they put the truck cam in... maybe the thought "hmmmm, if it's from a truck it must be stronger, therefore, faster..." hahaha....

wvspeed: thanx for the heads up,so i guess if the plugs aren't the right ones, they might touch the headsand just start to melt... lol....well the plugs really wouldn't bother mecause i'm gonna change them, by the way, does anyone know who makes real blue plug wires.... i have some right now, but they're more purple....haha.....anyways....
