Default New carb throttle cable issue

Hello,

I have recently installed a new carb on my camaro (edelbrock 1406) and noticed when hooking it up, the throttle cable is to long for the carb linkage. when the throttle linkage is placed in its rightful mount (on top of intake) and then run to the carb, it isnt fully engaged. The new carb has a slightly different linkage but seems to be the same, and when the carb is bolted down, the throttle attaches but there is a ton of "slack" in it and when you go into the car, and push the pedal to the floor, you only get the carb halfway open instead of all the way open. Is there a way to adjust this cable or do i need to make/purchase a different linkage adapter? This same thing goes for the tranny kickdown cable. is there something i might be missing?

Car info
400 SBC
TH350 trans
Cam - .442 intake & exhaust lift (in)

if you need some more info let me know, as of right now, i'm not exactly sure why the linkages are "off" any help is appreciated.
Thanks

Bend the upper arm on your gas pedal away from the firewall to take up the slack.
