Miss at a low idle? Lifter weak?
1978 Z28 Camaro with 350. Replaced all the spark plugs, wires, cap, and rotor. At idle the car seems to have a slight miss on cylinder #5 but clears up once rpms reach over 1500. I think it could be a possible lifter issue from sitting for more than 7 years. Any advise?
after sitting that long, could just be a sticky valve. an old school trick for cleaning up gunk in an old motor like this: dump a quart of ATF in the oil and run the engine in the driveway for a while. Don't take off driving it, just let it sit and run, the detergents in the ATF will break down the buildup in the engine, free up the valves, and won't hurt anything like a lot of these expensive oil additives can. Drain and fill with fresh oil and ride.
Another thing to check is crap in the jets on the carb from sitting so long. Sometimes this will make it feel like it's just skipping on 1 cylinder, but if you check it again it will look like a different cylinder. It wouldn't hurt to take the top off the carb and clean everything out really well and slap it back together. This isn't that hard to do, just pay attention and take your time, there are some small parts that can get tedious, and don't drop any clips down the intake...

Nitro..WOW...
Okay, first of all, give me one reason why he would replace his entire gastank because he might be missfiring... And to tell him to go buy a new carb? What are you thinking, before anyone on camaroforums.com should buy a part, i would want to be insuredby alhi,Camaro 69,Z28pete,kyphur,Madmikez28 or any of those top enthusiests(sorry if i missed some people, Im new). But dont come on here and tell people to spend hundreds of $$$ when you clearly know nothing about cars.
And rfletch165, i would agree with with brnydanimal, and do try some of the possible solutions he suggested. P.S.I also heard 2 cups ofautomatic transmission fluid in themotor can clear up clogged parts in a small blockGM engine.Andif you wanna spenda little more to clean up thatengine, I suggest Seafoam. Its a very good cleaning agent in my opinion, I've heard lots ofgood stuff aboutit, and some bad. Heres a link to there site> http://www.seafoamsales.com/

I agree clean the carb and ckeck the ckoke and flote. also check for vacume leakes my 79 had a vacume off and the car would barley run check wires make sure header didn't burn up a wire. a valve should clean itself up after running for a while.
