Engine is actin like a miss fire.. rough idle. Neep help!
98 Camaro v6, 141K. Car is pretty well taken care of and I have done lots of perventive/maintenance on this car. Anyways, my car is having a miss fire like a rough idle and when im accelerating it acts like it has no power and just miss fires. Going 70 on the highway it does just fine, but as soon as you give it some gas to pass a car, it starts miss firing and even to the point it jerks the car a slight bit when the engine does this. Me and my dad thought it might be the spark plug wires so we changed them. Did really no help.
When this rough idle at times/missing on acceleration, I have noticed that this mostly happens after I drive it in the rain through a hard storm. It has been this about 5 times before but usually it goes away after 1-3 days. I have been putting lucus fuel addative in it before and this seemed to help.. not this time.
Don't really know what it could be..???

The service engine light has been on and off for the past year... car ran fine so I did really nothing about it. Sence I changed the plug wires it has not been on but the problem remains. Also got it checked at auto zone and the print out they gave me was a long list ranging from possibilities of $1000 repairs to $5 fix, so I do not trust that at all. The print out was not specific as to what specifically was the problem, just a long list of what COULD be the problem.
Like I said I have done plenty of maintenance on this car, new spark plugs not too long ago, new water pump, ALL fluids flushed and replaced (some more than once in the past year), all new brakes, new belt, oil changes on the reg w/ lucus oil additive, lucus fuel additive once a month, just about all of the a/c system is new, etc, etc...
I was thinking is it possible that the fuel filter is clogged causing this? I replaced it too but that was over 30K ago.

Post the codes if you have them and also check under the hood to see if you have any vac leaks. I agree with the description you gave of the Auto Zone read out at this point! Could be a $1000 problem or a $5 problem.

Sorry don't have the code print out anymore, so I don't know the code. It has been a week and the check engine light has not been on sense. Although the car still has a rough idle and it has no power when you try to accelerate, it does not do this all the time. Only about half the time I drive it, it does that. So I really don't know what it could be.
What do you guys think? Coils? Maybe the Crank position sensor? ???
