Question Engine Question

Hey all my name is Bryan,
I am new to the forum and i am restoring a 79 camaro z28. I just recently pulled the engine from the car and it turns out the exhaust manifold is cracked. I was looking into putting headers on it but im not sure if they would work on the car. I know there is a actuator on the engine that mounts to the exhaust manifold, but i have no idea what it does. Can anyone help me out? I just need to know if going to headers is possible, and if this actuator thing is important.
Thanks guys

I DON'T KNOW IF THIS IS ANY HELP BUT BACK IN THE DAY THE GUYS THAT WERE CONSERNED WITH EMISSIONS CONTROL STUFF USED EDDELBROCH HEADERS BECAUSE THEY DIRECTLY BOLTED IN WITH PROVISIONS FOR ALL THE THAT NASTY EMISSIONS STUFF....but they do cost a bit more than the other headers.
