carby, the 4150 craburetor comes in different sizes. I don't like the Quadrajunk, but that's just me...and some other people...and some other, other people. Now he'll have something new to learn.

it produces between 500 to 700 cfm. But i am still getting the same results as before. its popping and backfiring. so i tried retarding and advancing it. retarding it,made it catch on fire. and advancing it made it sound like a gun going off. so im thinking maybe the distributor is 180 degrees off. the vacuum advance is on the passenger side now, but if i turn it around maybe it'll work. any ideas?

have you taken the distributor out at any time during this adventure? or how about, has it been really lose while you were turning the motor over trying to start it?

I have an idea, did you take a look at the two videos I posted a couple pages back? They show how to find proper tdc, and installing the distributor. It sure sounds like your timing is way out of whack. Go give it some whack and then check back.

The person i bought it from took out the distributor, but ever since i bought the car, it's been sitting correctly. How do i found out the number of degrees my HB should be at for it to be completely TDC? Because right now I'm doing it to 0 Degrees.

On the type of engine like you have, 8-10 degrees btdc is a very normal setting. Your engine should run if set there.
It may or may not be the perfect "sweet spot", but it shouldn't be popping back.

Yup, she ran last night!
Sounded pretty good too, but the freeze plug behind the power steering blew out so just got some new plugs,
We started it without any water in the radiator too, but we filled that up right away.
Uhm..It was smoking like crazy though, didn't degrease the engine so that all just started smouldering.

She runs perfect now. The distributor was on 180 degrees off. But now the engine dies when i shift it into gear. So i raised the idol all the way up and it still dies when in drive but not in reverse. I dont know if the torque converter is shot or if the fluid is having a hard time getting back through the system.
