You still have to line up the marks. Look at the animation in the link below. It's easiest to set up the cam and crank gears so that they are dot to dot. Then rotate the engine 180 degrees until both dots are straight up. That's top dead center on the #1 cylinder.

Hmmm...he used no torque wrench on the cam bolts? Not a good idea, especially if you're not experienced with how tight is tight. I also like to use the lock tab instead of Loctite, but to each their own.

When the dots face each other, the engine is at top dead center (TDC) on the #6 piston. When both dots are up, it's at TDC on the #1 piston.
I still think you should get the one I showed, the one you linked to is a single chain type. The three grooves on the crank gear are options for setting the cam timing (not ignition timing) to normal, 4 degrees retarded, or 4 degrees advanced. The 4 degrees settings are for experienced engine builders who use a dial indicator and degree wheel for setting up a cam. I have a feeling you're not going that route.

I wouldn't bother doing a cam in an otherwise stock 305,pretty much a waste of money.
Do the timing set and drive it,save your pennies for a good running 350 or 400.
