couple questions. first off i have a 81 camaro rs
305. auto.

first question is my secondarys on my carb are not opening up and i dont know why. there is a small bar that is holding the flaps closed and i guess they dont let loose, but when i let it loose the second i start the car they open up completely and the car rpms shoot up and i have to turn the car off right away. i dont know much about these carbs, its a quad jet. electronic carb.

and next question im wondering if anyone has pics of a stock 305 motor showing all vacumm lines and all that stuff in detail.

i bought the car for 200 from someone but they had takin the motor completely apart and im rebuilding it. it does start now

 

The secondaries don't open until the choke opens up. That "small bar" is an interlock to prevent you from putting your foot in it with a cold engine. It sounds like by fiddling with it, you're putting your linkage high on the fast idle cam. If the choke isn't opening all the way with a hot engine, it isn't adjusted correctly, the linkage isn't working, or the choke mechanism isn't working.

 

in 81 , it should be an electric choke stat. my be unplugged, no power or bad element.
but who knows what you have now???
is there a wire connector pointing from the side of the black piece?
or is it flat and a pipe for vaccum hose pointing forward from the aluminum?

 

sounds like a bad element
