70 Camaro Wipers Hit the hood
Hi,
I recently bought a 70 Camaro from CA. The wipers are real close to the hood and hit it when I turn them on. I put a pair from Walmart on before I ever tried the wipers, so I don't know if that mattered. Is there any differance between "store" wipers and original/reproductions? I also question if the car may have once been hit on the pass side where the fender meets the door and hood. I do hope it's just a bad hood hinge.
Any help would be welcome, Thx

I see your hood is "jacked up" at the windshield. That's a hood-to-hinge and hinge-to-body adjustment to drop it back down. But that's going to make the wipers even closer to the hood. I wonder if maybe your wiper arms are bent? What's hitting the hood, the arms or the blades? It appears that maybe the previous owner purposely adjusted the hood higher to clear the wipers.

Actually it's just the drivers side hitting. The hood is not jacked on that side. It's the arm that hits and I can see where someone once ground the arm down a bit to make it not hit. I wonder if they could be the incorrect arms?

The original hide-a-way arms are lower than repro's. Also make sure your wiper arms are all the way down on the posts and that your hood is not to far back on the hinge as that can mess up your clearance.

Ever so careful, pull the arm up. How much slop is in the linkage? Elongated pivot areas that could use an adjustment might take the slack up.
Then again, you would know how much free-play you would have to work with to tighten up the one arm or matching arms, say.

The wiper arms appear to be correct. The drivers side has the support arm and the passenger does not. The rear of the drivers side hood does appear to be a little low so maybe adjusting it up would help. The rear of the pass side is defianately lifted. I have new hood hinges and am waiting for a buddy to help me swap the hinges out.
I'm not a fan of driving in the rain but drove the car to work a couple of weeks ago and it started raining as I jumped on the highway coming home. It was not in the forecast. As I turned the wipers on the drivers side hit and quit. I immediately turned them off for the rest of the 40 minute ride and had a very difficult time seeing. I tried the wipers tonight to test and the drivers side is definately hurt. It moved and stuck at the top as the pass side kept going. I shut them off again and here we are.
I'm new to this car and had an arguement with my wife this past weekend. For the first time I ripped it up on the way out of the driveway. I think it made a statement when the smoke cleared. She actually made dinner for the past two nights. An impressed buddy of mine emailed me after passing the burnout on his way to work.
What a fun car!

You should hit the track for a before and after comparison. I was thinking about going late model, but I went ahead and did the coupler/seal thing to mine. Might go for it after I get some solid high 13 passes in.
